Super Falcons coach warns against complacency ahead of Benin return leg
Head coach of the Super Falcons, Justine Madugu, has stressed that his team will “take nothing for granted” ahead of the return leg of their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 Qualifier against the Amazons (Benin Republic) in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The Falcons currently lead the tie 2–0 after the first leg in Lomé, with goals from Chinwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo.
Madugu acknowledged the threat posed by the Benin side, which fielded several foreign-based professionals in the first leg.
“The Amazons, with about 10 professional players from Germany, Morocco, France and Equatorial Guinea, gave a good account of themselves… underrating any team now in Africa could be at your own peril,” he said.
He emphasised the Falcons’ objective: qualification for WAFCON 2026 and ultimately advancing towards the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027 in Brazil.
