Three Nigerians Held in Kenya Over Cyber‑Fraud Allegations
Mwea, Kenya – Kenyan police have detained three Nigerian men suspected of running a cyber‑fraud scheme from an apartment in Mwaliko Estate, Mwea Town.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed the arrests on Wednesday, following a tip from local residents who noticed unusual late‑night activity in the building.
The suspects; Peter Chukwujekwu, Alazor Chukulute Sunday and Nnalue Chiagozie Samwe were taken into custody during a joint‑agency raid aimed at dismantling a suspected online scam network.
According to the DCI, the men claimed to operate an e‑commerce business but were living in Kenya without valid work permits.
“Three Nigerian nationals were nabbed in a coordinated multi‑agency operation in Mwaliko Estate,” the DCI said in a statement. “The raid uncovered evidence of a cyber‑fraud ring that was targeting unsuspecting Kenyans.”
Investigators say the fraudsters used social media, particularly Facebook, to befriend victims, promising them goods shipped from abroad via DHL.
Once trust was established, the scammers asked for money and disappeared.

The arrests echo a broader pattern of Nigerian nationals being apprehended abroad for cyber‑crime, drug trafficking and human‑trafficking.
In June 2023, Kenyan authorities detained 19 Nigerians in Nairobi for similar electronic fraud schemes that duped Kenyans out of large sums of money.
The DCI has urged anyone who believes they may have been targeted to come forward as the investigation continues.
However, the three men remain in custody pending further inquiries and possible charges.
