The closed-door session was attended by Nigeria’s top security leadership, highlighting ongoing defence collaboration between Nigeria and the United States, particularly in areas of counterterrorism, intelligence sharing, and regional security operations.
Details of the meeting were made public through a post on X (formerly Twitter) by the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Dada Olusegun, who noted that the engagement focused on strengthening bilateral security cooperation and addressing evolving security challenges across West Africa and the broader Sahel region.
Nigeria has maintained longstanding military and strategic ties with AFRICOM, especially in combating insurgency, terrorism, piracy in the Gulf of Guinea, and transnational organised crime. Analysts say such engagements reflect continued international partnerships aimed at improving Nigeria’s security capacity and stabilising the region.
While full details of the discussions were not officially disclosed, the visit underscores growing diplomatic and military coordination between both nations amid persistent security concerns in parts of the country and across Africa.
