Trump says Iran could be ‘taken out in one night’ during news conference on war

United States President Donald Trump has warned that Iran could be “taken out in one night,” signalling a potential escalation in the ongoing crisis between Washington and Tehran.

Speaking during a news conference, Trump suggested that military action could come as early as Tuesday, a deadline he reportedly set for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route.

The president’s remarks come amid growing tensions following Iran’s rejection of a proposed 45-day ceasefire put forward by international mediators. While Trump described the proposal as a “significant step,” he insisted it was “not good enough.”

Iranian authorities, according to state media, have instead called for a permanent end to the conflict, dismissing the temporary truce. Despite the rejection, Trump maintained that Tehran remains an “active, willing participant” in broader negotiations to end the war.

Trump also highlighted a recent US military operation, confirming the successful rescue of an American service member from Iran over the weekend. He and other officials presented the operation as a sign of US capability and resolve.

In addition, the president reiterated threats to target key Iranian infrastructure, including bridges and power plants. He argued that such actions could ultimately lead to the country’s “freedom,” claiming that the Iranian people would be willing to endure hardship in pursuit of that goal.

However, Iranian officials have warned that any attack on critical infrastructure would have far-reaching consequences beyond the region, raising concerns about a wider conflict in the Middle East.

The latest developments underscore rising uncertainty, as diplomatic efforts continue alongside increasingly sharp rhetoric from both sides.
