Workers Protest Against Minister’s Neglect at Women Affairs Ministry
Staffs at the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs are voicing frustration over the actions of Minister Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, accusing her of neglecting their needs and creating a disconnected work environment.
The unrest spilled over into a protest at the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, where employees chanted slogans and criticized the minister for what they described as ineffective leadership.
Workers expressed dismay over the lack of basic supplies, such as stationery, forcing them to dip into their personal funds to perform their duties. One employee, Anne Ojubele, shared her struggles, saying, “We’re working without the tools we need. Even simple things like paper are missing. When we raise concerns, she brushes us off and tells us to take it up with the President.”

Another staff member, Alake Success, highlighted the minister’s behavior stating, “She keeps her distance from us. We’ve tried to build a working relationship, but she seems to prioritize her large team of over 25 special assistants over the rest of us. We just want a leader who listens.”
In response, the ministry issued a statement acknowledging the workers’ right to express their grievances but urged them to maintain professionalism.
Jonathan Eze, the minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, defended Sulaiman-Ibrahim, describing her as a committed human resource professional who values staff welfare. He clarified that financial and administrative matters fall under the Permanent Secretary’s purview, who will review the complaints and propose solutions.
The ministry emphasized its commitment to addressing staff concerns within the constraints of available resources, as tensions remain high among employees seeking better working conditions and leadership engagement.
