In an industry dominated by Afrobeats and pop, Nigerian classical artiste Yinka Erinle is carving a unique path with her soulful renditions and deep-rooted love for timeless music. From her formative years to her current rise as one of Nigeria’s few celebrated classical voices, Erinle’s journey is both inspiring and defining.
A Musical Journey That Began Early
Yinka’s foray into classical music began during her junior secondary school years at Bellina Schools. The school’s proprietor, a devoted music lover, brought in a group known as The Young Ambassadors to train students in music. That moment proved to be the turning point.
“They placed my feet on the pedestal of classical music,” she recalls. “They trained me, took me to competitions, and I joined their chorale immediately after secondary school.”
Her foundation was further strengthened by the choir at her church, CCC Akoka Parish 1, which is classically inclined. According to her, classical music excites her because it’s different. “I love to stand out, and classical music stands out.”

Educational Background Beyond the Stage
Erinle’s academic path reflects both discipline and versatility. She completed her nursery, primary, and secondary education at Bellina Schools and holds a BSc in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos (UNILAG). After serving in Zamfara State during her NYSC, she completed three professional courses in customer service management, proving that her excellence extends beyond music.
Fusing Heritage with Harmony
For Yinka, being Nigerian enhances her musical identity. The diversity of Nigerian languages and cultural richness influences her style as a classical singer.
“We have composers like Professor Seun Owoaje and Ayo Ajayi who’ve written classical pieces in Nigerian languages,” she notes. “Being Nigerian makes me connect more with those works. It’s my heritage, my pride.”

A Style All Her Own
What sets Yinka apart is her musical versatility. She transforms contemporary songs into classical masterpieces and blends genres like RnB and jazz with classical textures. In a gospel music scene where few embrace classical style, Erinle’s performances stand out for their elegance and uniqueness.
“There aren’t many classical gospel artistes doing it as beautifully as I do,” she says confidently.
Defining Moments on Stage
One of the most defining elements of her career is her annual concert series, now in its fourth year. For Erinle, these self-hosted concerts have been pivotal in expanding her reach and affirming her growth.
“Each year gets better. God has been a major source of my promotion. I keep meeting people who believe in the project.”
She also credits platforms like the Luli Concert for helping her connect with a broader audience.
Connecting Emotionally with Every Note
Yinka’s performances are never one-size-fits-all. She adapts her delivery based on the emotional tone of each event.
“A burial requires comforting. A wedding or birthday needs a celebratory tone. For corporate events, I focus on serenading. I critically analyze every job before performing.”

Challenges and Convictions
Navigating Nigeria’s music industry as a classical artiste is no small feat. Classical music is not as mainstream or appreciated as other genres, often sidelining artistes like Yinka from typical event lineups.
“Some people just want to dance. At times, it feels like we can’t fit in. That’s why many classically trained musicians try to relocate,” she admits. “But I tell myself—I am the best, so I’m only for the best.”
Inspirations Across Borders
While she doesn’t single out one major influence, Erinle appreciates anyone who sings classical music well. Internationally, she admires Andrea Bocelli, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion, and locally, Asa, Waje, among others.
“Anyone with vocal excellence catches my interest,” she adds.

Dream Collaborations and What Lies Ahead
If given the opportunity, she dreams of performing with the Johann Strauss Orchestra, Andrea Bocelli, and gospel act Pastor Noble G.
And at the moment, her heart is set on her upcoming concert.
“Yinka Erinle in Concert 4.0 set to hold on August 10,2025 is my next big step. It also marks five years on stage. I’m excited and confident it’ll be a success.”
Leaving a Legacy for the Next Generation
As a proud Nigerian classical artiste, Erinle hopes to break boundaries and prove that Africa has a place on the global classical stage.
“Nigerian classical artistes can be globally renowned. We can earn the respect we truly deserve.”
Yinka Erinle’s voice does more than fill concert halls—it carries a message of elegance, cultural pride, and resilience. As she continues to break new ground, she stands as a beacon for classical musicians across Africa and beyond.
