Peter Obi Dismisses APC Links, Calls for Credible Elections
Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has denied reports linking him to the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting that he has no ties to the ruling party and has no intention of joining.
Obi reacted on Saturday to claims that his name was mentioned at an APC gathering, dismissing the speculation as false. He reiterated his commitment to issue-based politics and condemned any attempt to associate him with political manipulation or blackmail.
“I have come across a report circulating on social media regarding an APC gathering where my name was mentioned. Let me make it unequivocally clear: I do not engage in toxic politics, blackmail, or any form of political manipulation,” Obi stated.
“For the avoidance of doubt, both now and in the future, I am not a member of the APC, nor am I an intending member. My stance on politics has always been rooted in integrity, fairness, and issue-based engagement,” he added.
Obi also commented on the political future of former Labour Party governorship aspirant in Anambra State, Valentine Ozigbo, stating that aspirants should be assessed based on their competence, capacity, and vision, regardless of their political party.

He stressed that primaries should be conducted fairly, whether through voting, selection, or interviews, emphasizing that every legitimate party member deserves an unbiased opportunity to contest.
“As we approach the Anambra State governorship election in November, I sincerely hope that all parties, including mine, will ensure a transparent and democratic process, and engage in credible, fair primaries,” he said.
Obi further urged political stakeholders to reject toxic politics and uphold justice, stating that Nigeria still struggles to embrace true democracy. He called for elections to be driven by credibility rather than propaganda or personal attacks.
“We must reject toxic politics, for that is the only path to achieving the democratic nation we currently lack. By doing so, we will move closer to the new Nigeria we seek,” he added.
