Police Officer Honoured After Rejecting $17,000 Bribe
A police officer in Bayelsa State, Superintendent Sentome Obi, has become a symbol of integrity after refusing a $17,000 bribe reportedly offered by a suspected ritual killer.

The officer was said to have turned down the bribe, which was meant to secure the release of a murder suspect allegedly linked to ritual killings. Instead of compromising, Obi arrested the suspect and ensured legal procedures were followed.
His action has attracted public admiration and a personal reward from the Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri. Following the State Executive Council meeting in Yenagoa on Wednesday, 23 July, the Governor announced that SP Obi would be given a three-bedroom apartment and a brand-new car from the state government.
