Presidency faces pressure as PRP demands Tinubu’s resignation
The Presidency is under fresh pressure following a call by the Peoples Redemption Party for President Bola Tinubu to resign over what it described as a worsening security situation across the country.
The opposition party said recent incidents, including the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, have raised serious concerns about the safety of citizens and the government’s response to insecurity.
In a statement issued on Thursday, PRP National Chairman, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, said the scale of violence and criminal activity across the country shows that the administration has not met its responsibility to protect lives and property.

He said insecurity has spread across different regions, with both rural and urban communities affected, and warned that vulnerable groups such as schoolchildren are increasingly becoming targets.
Baba-Ahmed stated that the current situation reflects deeper weaknesses in the country’s security system, noting that many Nigerians now feel exposed to threats regardless of their location or status.
He also criticised what he described as a concentration of power at the centre without corresponding improvement in security outcomes, adding that leadership must be judged by its ability to ensure the safety of citizens.

The party maintained that waiting for the next general election is not a sufficient response to the current challenges, stressing that the impact of insecurity is being felt daily by victims and their families.
It called for greater accountability in governance and urged Nigerians to demand stronger action in addressing the crisis.
The criticism comes as security concerns continue to dominate public discussion, with recurring cases of kidnapping, banditry and attacks on communities reported in different parts of the country.
The Presidency has, however, maintained that the administration inherited long-standing security challenges and is working through military and intelligence efforts to address them.
