Tinubu Mourns Buhari, Describes Him as Man of Discipline and Quiet Strength
President Bola Tinubu has paid tribute to the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a man of “rare discipline and quiet strength” whose decisions were deeply rooted in his love for Nigeria. In a statement posted on his official X account on Wednesday, Tinubu said Buhari’s death was not only a national tragedy but a deeply personal loss.
“Mai Gaskiya was not just a former president,” he wrote. “He was a man of rare discipline and quiet strength, whose love for Nigeria shaped every decision he made, even in the face of criticism.”
President Tinubu recalled their relationship as one that extended beyond the realm of politics, adding that he mourns Buhari not only as a predecessor but also as a fellow traveller on the long road of national service. “I mourn him deeply, not just as my predecessor, but as a comrade in the long and often lonely journey of nation-building,” Tinubu stated.

He offered heartfelt condolences to the former president’s widow, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, and the entire family, urging them to take solace in the honour and legacy he leaves behind. “Nigeria has lost a true son. I have lost a friend in former President Buhari. May Almighty Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus. Rest well, Baba Buhari,” the President added.
Buhari, who first ruled Nigeria as a military head of state from 1983 to 1985 and later served two terms as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023, was buried on Tuesday in Daura, Katsina State, in line with Islamic rites.
